Dr. Shamail Zafar is working as consultant Gastroenterologist and Head Endoscopy Services at Ghurki Trust Teaching Hospital Lahore, and Professor of Medicine at Lahore Medical & Dental College Lahore, Pakistan.
Dr. Zafar graduated from Allama Iqbal Medical College, Lahore Pakistan in 1996 (MBBS). He received his Internal Medicine residency training from Jinnah Hospital Lahore and became Fellow of College of Physicians and Surgeons Pakistan in 2003 (FCPS). He has also received fellowships from Royal College of Physicians UK (FRCP), American College of Gastroenterology (FACG), American Society of Gastro-intestinal Endoscopy (FASGE), American Gastroenterology Association (AGAF) and International Medical sciences Academy (FIMSA).
Dr. Zafar has more than 50 publications to his credit which are published in peer reviewed journals of National and International repute. He is also the co-author of a chapter in book MCQ’s in General Medicine for Dental Students (Published in 2014 by Jaypee)
He is actively involved in formulating and have published guidelines and consensus statements for Pakistan Society of Gastroenterology on the topics of Hepatitis B, Hepatitis C, GERD, Hepatic Encephalopathy and H Pylori.
Dr. Zafar has also served as Chief and Co-Investigator for several national and International clinical trials. He is pioneer Endoscopist in Pakistan to use Intragastric Balloon for weight loss and has published several publications on Obesity Management in Pakistani population.
Dr. Shamail Zafar currently holds the office of Councilor and past Vice President Pakistan Society of Gastroenterology and GI Endoscopy (PSG) and Member Executive council of Pakistan Society for Study of Liver Diseases (PSSLD) and Pakistan Society of Hepatology (PSH).
Dr. Zafar holds the responsibility of Editor Pakistan Journal of Gastroenterology, and Reviewer of Saudi Journal of Gastroenterology, Pakistan Journal of Medical Health Sciences and Pakistan Journal of Internal Medicine.
